Sigma Xi Scientific Honor Society Seeks New Executive Director
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC – Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society is seeking applications for the position of executive director at the society’s headquarters here.
Founded in 1886, Sigma Xi is the international honor society of research scientists and engineers, with approximately 60,000 members and more than 500 chapters in North America and around the world. The society publishes award-winning American Scientist magazine and sponsors a variety of programs that support science and engineering.
Sigma Xi occupies a unique position in the scientific community. The society’s purpose is to honor scientific achievement, improve the quality of science and access to science, enhance scientific literacy, encourage interdisciplinary research, inform policy-makers about science and foster interactions among researchers worldwide.
As the CEO, the executive director (ED) will lead and work closely with the society's board of directors, committees and staff in positively affecting the direction of the vision and goals of Sigma Xi. The ED will be the chief fundraiser, membership development officer and publisher of American Scientist.
These responsibilities require an exceptional appreciation of science, research, strategic planning, solid business experience and demonstrated skills in management, public relations, marketing and publishing, with implementation skills at the local, national and international levels.
